Dr. Caleb Corrigan is a community pharmacist practicing in western Illinois. He originally became involved with the ADFPF after learning of the Salvation Army Lifting Team’s gym providing free fitness and powerlifting training to the community, and he has continued to become more involved in recognition of the contribution SALT’s coaches make both to the sport of powerlifting and to the community in which they reside. Caleb eventually took the position of Drug Testing Officer in late 2023 in order to continue to support the ADFPF’s mission of drug-free competition on a national level.
Whitney Piper is a Doctor of Physical Therapy student at University of Wisconsin – Madison. She has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Western Illinois University. She began lifting when she was ten years old and has had a passion for it ever since. She has been competing for the last 13 years in the USAWA, ADFPF, and WDFPF. Whitney has competed in multiple national and world competitions and holds many National, American, and World records. She has been coaching athletes at the Salvation Army alongside Tim Piper for the last 5 years. She has also been a member of the Salvation Army Lifting Team (SALT) since she began competing in 2010. Whitney was the youngest person ever to become a national referee in the ADFPF at the age of 16.
Dave Mansfield practices as an outpatient Orthopedics Physical Therapist in Southeastern Massachusetts with a specialty in Sports Medicine. He is also a strength and conditioning coach (CSCS through the NSCA) and a Health and Fitness Specialist (ACSM). He has written a number of training and injury prevention journal articles over the years, as well. . In addition, Dave is a Graston Technique certified clinician and is an Instructor for Graston Technique. Powerlifting has been a passion for many years, with a number of American, National, and World Master’s records to his credit with several federations. Dedication to the BIG IRON Powerlifting Team from East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, which continues to send lifters to compete at local, regional, National, and World events, gets him up and out to the gym in the early morning hours. In addition, Big Iron Fitness & Rehab. LLC partners with the Bay State Athletic Club to sponsor, promote and organize many meets in the Northeast and as far South as Virginia (in partnership with Virginia Powerlifting) as well as ADFPF National and WDFPF World competitions. Dave is an International Level Official with the WDFPF (as well as with a number of other organizations) and serves on the substance testing and enforcement committee of the WDFPF.
When asked about the whys and wherefores of his interest in the sport of powerlifting, Dave will say that goal setting, organizing training sessions and cycles and periodizing training for injury prevention and competition success give him a sense of accomplishment, and seeing his training partners succeed and bringing new lifters into the “fold” is reward enough. Behind all that, the real truth is: “I love to train with weights, and always have, ever since my folks told me way back when I was in Junior High that “weight lifting will stunt your growth .”Being of a contrary and competitive nature, he moved on to success in football, track and field, and later racquetball and softball but always sought refuge and satisfaction with the weights, and so eventually to a passion for Powerlifting. A great deal of that success has been realized through and with the support of “my beautiful wife Ramona, who plans most of the trips, helps with whatever needs doing, consoles me on the bad days, and celebrates the good…but mostly keeps life’s
perspectives adjusted”.
“Growing the ADFPF and providing our lifters with quality venues, consistent officiating, and robust and fair competitions where they are able to test themselves against their peers at Local, National and World meets are my goals for and reasons for my involvement with The Federation”.
Charla Wrenn is a very busy mom of a large brood of children.
She is a stay-at-home mother and has home-educated all 8 of the kids over the last 25 years. She graduated from Western Illinois University with a Bachelor’s in Hospitality Administration in 1993. She and one of her daughters started a Farmer’s Market stand in 2015 called Bird Bites Bakery and Gifts, where they sell a number of well-loved family treats and homemade gifts. Charla enjoys putting together special events and has successfully raised money for her son and another lifter to attend lifting events.
Charla has been around sports most of her life through her dad and ran track her freshman year of high school. She especially loves football, loudly cheering for the Western Illinois University Leathernecks and the Green Bay Packers.
She has been her children’s cheering section during their baseball and football seasons.
She became interested in lifting when her second oldest son, Johnathon, wanted to lift weights at the Salvation Army gym that his friend frequented. He had played football for one season and wanted to get stronger for the following one as he is quite small in size and stature. As she drove him and regularly just stayed at the facility, she decided to start using the machines and noticed that she felt better physically.
With the encouragement of her sons, she began using the free weights to bench press. After watching the boys compete and taking John to the 2011 SE World event in Muskegon, Michigan, she decided she wanted to compete as well. She has continued to train to compete and has trained through and around injuries, illnesses, and minor surgeries since August 2011. She was blessed to be trained and encouraged by both Roger and Judy Gedney and was requested by Judy to take over her roll with the ADFPF in early 2012.
“Walking into the gym and seeing all that represents what Judy did for women lifters-her trophies, plaques, medals, and all of that precious photos-is truly an inspiration. That I get to lift and train where she did is humbling. I can only pray that as I compete that I can be a smidgeon of the inspiration she is and that I continue to encourage other women to be strong and healthy no matter their age or size.”
